Mass Marketed Items Reduced To Their Purest Form in Brand Spirit.

Brand Spirit is a Tumblr project by Andrew Miller of New York's Carbone Smolan Agency. Every day for 100 days, he is painting one object entirely in white, removing all evidence of visual branding and reducing the object to its purest form. He then adds a photograph of the object to his Tumblr site.

above: Victorinox

The consumables, toys, desk accessories, household staples and other objects (all priced at or under $10) are surprisingly recognizable without signage and labels. The exercise/ project proves how many mass produced and marketed items become icons in their own right, based soley on their shape or packaging.

As of May 11, 2012, Andrew had posted 61 of his intended 100 items. Below are 30 examples. Could you tell whose brand all the following objects are? My guess is 'yes.'

Tabasco:

Pez:

Maxell:

Bic (Wite-out):

Sharpie:

Rubik's Cube:

Chiquita:

Swingline:

Twizzler:

Pantone (color chip):

Here's one of those great commercials that capitalizes on a universal truth regardless of country or language.

The campaign explains that, with the arrival of the Summer heat, comes the arrival of dads wearing nothing but briefs. This commercial offers a solution to this problem. Created by Del Campo Saatchi & Saatchi for BGH air conditioners.

Burberry World Live - Film, Music and Digital Weather - Launches in Taipei.

To celebrate the opening of their nearly 15,000 square foot flagship store in Taiwan (shown above), Burberry World Live, a 360 immersive experience, began in Taipei on 26 April 2012.

Christopher Bailey designed a custom cylindrical space that brought to life the Burberry worlds of British Heritage, Fashion, Music and Weather to celebrate the opening of the Burberry Taiwan flagship store at Taipei 101.

Combining an eight part 360 degree film, a live musical performance and digital weather experience, Burberry World Live will tour cities globally including London, Hong Kong and Chicago later this year.

This multi sensory experience is the first to blur the physical and digital dimensions of the brand.

The Fiat 500 by Gucci Promoted With These Four Short Films By Various Directors.

About a year ago, I gave my readers a good look at the Fiat 500 by Gucci (and the chic matching accessories).

Now, Gucci's Creative Director, Frida Giannini, and Fiat invited Jefferson Hack (Editor in Chief of Dazed & Confused and AnOther Magazine), NOWNESS, Olivier Zahm (Editor in Chief of Purple Fashion magazine), Franca Sozzani (Editor in Chief of Vogue Italy), and Alexi Tan (Film Director) to produce a short film with FIAT's 500 by Gucci as the inspiration.

The results are the following four short films of varying lengths starring the 500 by Gucci seen through the eyes of some of the most visionary creatives in the world today.

Vogue presents "Reverse to Perfection" for Fiat 500 by Gucci Reverse to Perfection, a film by Francesco Carrozzini where luxury recaptures its place:

Purple presents "Polaroid Papillon" for Fiat 500 by Gucci, a film by Olivier Zahm featuring Betony Vernon at the Museo Casa Mollino, Torino:

"The Race", a short film by Will Davidson. The Fiat 500 by Gucci, an exhilarating embodiment of Italian spirit stars in The Race - a short film exclusive to Dazed directed by Will Davidson:

"Assembly line", a short film by Chris Sweeney. Chris Sweeney's film for the 500 by Gucci fuses two power houses of Italian design with a playful twist that brings the 500 to life in a completely unexpected way:

A Dramatic Ad For Belgium's Launch of TNT Is The Second-Most Shared Video To Date.

To launch the high quality TV channel TNT in Belgium, TNT’s Antwerp ad agency, Duval Guillaume Modem, came up with a very dramatic idea.

To promote the American drama station TNT Benelux, whose tagline is "We Know Drama," a large red button was placed in the center of an average Flemish square in an average Flemish town on April 10th, 2012. A sign with the text "Push to add drama" invited people to press the button.

Watch what ensued:

Todd Wasserman reports for Mashable that this fabulous and compelling ad for the launch of the Belgium cable channel TNT promoting “drama” is the second-most shared video of all time.

According to Unruly, a video research firm. The ad, which was released on April 11, has been shared 3 million times. Only “The Force,” the 2011 Super Bowl ad from Volkswagen, has been shared more.

David Waterhouse, head of content for Unruly, says the TNT ad — called “A Dramatic Surprise on a Quiet Street” — may well surpass “The Force” soon since one in seven people who saw “Surprise” shared it vs. one in 12 for “The Force.”

The ad, which appeared on YouTube on April 11, is now up to 21.5 million views.
